Road User Charging – will it damage the Industry?

Road User Charging – will it damage the Industry?

Transport is in the media in a big way for the upcoming federal election “My Money. My Transport” campaign seeks to enlist voters to hold all political candidates to account and ensure road and public transport users secure a fair share of funding for safer roads; expanded and more affordable public transport options; and policies to keep costs down for motorists.

Fuel excise is a major source of revenue for the federal government. As EV’s become more prevalent, and start to reach the projected levels of 50% by 2033, the government is going to have to change how it charges road users. Australia is trailing New Zealand in this respect. New Zealand have already rolled out Road User Charging (eRUC) nationally. Why are we so far behind, and do you think it will damage the industry?
