BACKGROUND

McAleese Limited (McAleese) provides specialised transport and logistics solutions in Australia. The company’s strategy is to build a significant transport business by focusing on three core areas – specialised transport and lifting, resources, and oil and gas.

 

 

PROJECTS

McAleese has grown significantly through organic growth, investment and in recent years through acquisitions. With each new step in McAleese’s journey, a new range of ICT challenges and opportunities arrive. The challenge has been to formulate strategies to provide effective systems that can operate across the full organisation, while at the same time continue to support the business with a lean ICT team. FourPL’s role has been to provide supplementary ICT support to the CIO’s team across telematics strategy, ERP, workforce planning and scheduling solutions, ICT advisory and IT due diligence projects.

 

 

OUR APPROACH

The FourPL approach is customised to the needs and expectations of the client. McAleese required practical and pragmatic strategies that could be executed quickly to address immediate needs while setting McAleese up for the long term. The FourPL approach provided enough structure to ensure quality, while delivering quickly to meet the emerging business needs in a difficult operating environment.

Examples of this pragmatic approach, included the development of a telematics strategy to meet McAleese’s diverse requirements that ranged from Melbourne fuel distribution to bulk haulage of iron ore in the Pilbara. The strategy report was delivered in 6 weeks, including extensive consultation in Perth, Port Headland, Kalgoorlie and numerous locations across Victoria.

In addition to collecting requirements from remote worksites, FourPL used static modelling techniques to pinpoint the operational losses and opportunities for efficiency improvements. As a better understanding of the business needs and constraints emerged, the telematics strategy inputs and outputs were repurposed to develop the requirements and tender documentation for a common workforce scheduling and planning solution. The workforce planning solution focused on roster development to provide fly-in-fly-out labour to match remote fleet capacity in the most optimised way. Our team performed the market scan of available tools, developed the procurement plans, evaluation criteria, evaluation plans, and tender documentation for distribution all with a clear focus on the business outcomes that McAleese required.
