Introducing Liz Nelson

We would like to welcome Liz Nelson to the team for 2019!

Liz is happily married to Steve and has two teenage daughters and an equally loveable Labrador and describes her riding style as “genetically unremarkable, but wildly enthusiastic”.

When she’s not riding her bike, Liz combines working as an exercise scientist with freelance journalism, coaching and copywriting.

Liz’s foray into cycling seven years ago was quite accidental – “I was a keen RPM instructor and I wanted to sound a little bit “pro” about cycling for my indoor participants,” she explains. “I accepted a friend’s offer to go riding and despite riding up Cemetery Hill in my big chain ring ( “ouch!” – Ed) , I throughly enjoyed myself.”

In late 2014, Liz experienced a major crash, which completely ruptured her hamstring off the bone. In the years following her surgical repair, Liz has quietly and determinedly worked to regain her strength and fitness in the hope of being able to ride strongly again, training for, and conquering the Three Peaks Challenge in Victoria twice as well as returning to racing in 2017.

“Splatt Lawyers Racing’s focus on masters athletes, and developing teamwork and camaraderie really appealed to me. I’m really looking forward to participating in a full racing season too. There is nothing I love more than supporting my teammates to success and I hope to be like Splattie, the team mascot, for everyone – right by their side.”

Liz’s favourite foods? “Anything with plenty of carbohydrate, gluten and all the stuff that fad diet marketers abhor. Pass me a slice of hubby’s New York Cheesecake please….”
